Why Does My E-cig Taste Burnt? - (eGo-T Cleaning)
If you have been using Electronic cigarettes for any period of time, you will have experienced the burnt flavor from your electronic cigarette after some use.
In our experience, top 2 reasons for this are:
A. The liquid is not reaching the atomizer (or cartomizer) fast enough. Therefore the old liquid on the atomizer coil is drying out and getting singed. This makes it taste like charred liquid. (or badly toasted marshmallows if you use a really sweet liquid)
This can be caused by any number of reasons including a poor adjustment of the electronic cigarettes wick, a thicker e-liquid, an empty tank or cartridge and so on. Solutions for this are as varied than the model of electronic cigarette being used. I this case some experiments can bring your device back to life and revitalize the vapor.
However, eventually you will encounter a similar and more crucial point in the following situation.
B. The atomizer (or cartomizer) coil is so caked with old liquid that no new liquid can reach the heating coil. Therefore the old liquid on the atomizer coil is getting singed and tasting like charred liquid.
At this point you have probably thought that your atomizer has had it's day and it is time for a new one.
But That is not necessarily the case. There are techniques for cleaning off the built up and singed liquid from your electronic cigarette that can bring it back from the dead, and even in some cases make it even better than new.
So How can you clean your eGo-T atomizers?
There are various methods that work for cleaning atomizers.
Probably the most effective for the eGo-t is doing a dry burn. Only use this method for an atomizer that is charred beyond simple rinsing because it works better the dirtier and more gunked up the atomizer is. Plus, there is a chance you can break the device totally by heating up the coil too long.
Firstly use a flat head screw driver to pry out the pin located in the atomizer chamber. It should pop out easily by levering the pin to one side.
Be careful not to misplace the wick in the pin. You will need it when you re-assemble the cleaned atomizer.
Now make sure the atomizer is clean and very dry. You can rinse out the excess liquid and let the atomizer dry on a shelf for a some time.
Or you can blow out the the atomizer and push all the liquid from the device.
Doing this with a wet atomizer just makes it take longer and wastes battery power and time.
Then you press the atomizer button on the ecig in short 3 second bursts.
This can be a long process, but you are aiming to completely dry the wick and then char the liquid on the coil. This makes it turn to white ash. This ash is easily cleaned from the coil and makes it like new.
The first few bursts may crackle and sizzle. this means there is still moisture in or around the coil.
After a few more bursts, some thick and smelly smoke will start coming from the coil. This means the moisture is gone and the liquid si starting to singe. You may also notice the coil is now glowing red again. That is a good sign.
Continue blasting the coil in short 3 second bursts and keep the smoke coming. It will smell pretty bad at this point but this is the point.
The reason you use three second bursts is to prevent the coil popping and breaking.
Eventually, after many bursts, the smoke will stop and the burnt liquid around the coil will turn white.
Once you are satisfied that all the liquid around the coil is charred, you can firstly dust and clean out the charred remnants with a toothpick or brush and then rinse and clean.
If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, you can also give the atomizer a burst in that.
Make sure you try to clean as much of the charred liquid off, as this may taint the flavor.
To re-assemble the pin in the atomizer - the easiest method involves using a new cartridge to push the pin back into the seating by pitting the pin in the cartridge hole, then pushing the cartridge in the atomizer as you would with a new cart.
Make sure the wick is nicely placed and the strands flow nicely down to the wick before you push the pin back in.
Do not force the pin as this can squash the rubber seal on the new tank and make it very hard to push the pin in properly. Better to wiggle it around gently rather than push too hard.
Once you have got it it should stay nicely.
This method works really well if you have the patience.
That is the cheapest price we know of for eGo-t.
Cheap ego atomizers and some maintenance skills should make your eGo atty last for ages.
It is also a good idea to experiment with regular cleaning of your atomizers to see if a daily rinse or boil in some hot water can prolong the life of your atomizer before you need to resort to a dry burn cleaning method.

You can do this with a whole bunch at once and it helps to scale back the buildup of gunk on your atomizers coil. Remember that you need to "blow them out" to dry them before you start vaping on them again. If the wick inside is still damp it will not produce vapor untill it is dried out and primed again with new liquid.
